Tattooed conscripts are accepted into the army only with the separate permission of a psychiatrist

The Defense Department has tightened its stance on body art. In principle, a tattoo is not directly an excuse to receive an exemption from military service. According to the terms of the draft, it is imperative to pass a medical examination, and then a pitfall appears. The medical council issues a decision on suitability for service.

This includes:

  • Neuropathologist;
  • Oculist;
  • Therapist;
  • Surgeon;
  • ENT;
  • Psychiatrist;
  • Dentist.

Each individually gives his own conclusion and on their basis and assigns a category of suitability. One of the members of the commission is a psychiatrist, it is he who evaluates the drawings on the body and decides how safe they are and whether they are a beacon of some kind of mental disorder. For a detailed examination, the conscript can be sent to a neuropsychiatric dispensary in order to finally make a diagnosis. Tattoos that pay special attention to:

– If a conscript has tattoos occupying more than 70% of the body;

– If tattoos are present on the face;

– If the drawings contain racist, occult or obscene content.

About 35% of percent leave the dispensary with a record that they are healthy and do not have mental disorders. If, according to the conclusions of doctors, a conscript needs treatment, he is registered and receives a reprieve. But such a diagnosis can greatly affect future employment. It is difficult for such people to get a passport, driver’s license. So why is it that people with tattoos are taken into the army only with the permission of a psychiatrist? The army is a place where the physical and psychological stress is much higher than in ordinary life. Therefore, in order to prevent a mental failure with an irreversible outcome, a psychiatrist needs to carefully study the nature of tattoos. Since the draft age starts from 18 years old, small deviations do not pose a danger, and with proper management, you can get rid of them, and after a few years on re-commissioning, you will be completely healthy and get into the army. There are those who try to get out of the service in this way and get a big aggressive tattoo. You should not do this, because in this way you can only complicate your life. The diagnosis is made not only by looking at the type of tattoo, but also interviews are conducted with the conscript to assess its adequacy. Many drawings are nothing more than a tribute to fashion, and not an image of hidden information. In the military registration and enlistment office, tattoos are entered into a personal file as special marks, they are counted and described. Only 1 case out of 100, these are obvious abnormalities that require treatment. The rest – do not need delay and treatment.
