Tatoo Circus Festival in Italy

For the first time, the Tatoo Circus festival (can be translated as Tattoo Show) was held in Rome in 2007. The idea of the festival was simple – to combine a “holiday” of tattoo culture and a political action. Tatoo Circus gave tattoo artists the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and skill in support of people facing social injustice, including citizens convicted for political reasons..

Tatoo Circus Festival in Italy – all the fun

As conceived by the organizers, the festival was intended to provide an opportunity for participants and activists to express their solidarity to prisoners and their families. The aim of the festival was to create a space where personal freedom and freedom of expression would merge..

Contrary to the name, Tatoo Circus is not only about tattoos, guests of the festival could also visit:

  • lectures;
  • master classes;
  • thematic exhibitions dedicated to the life of prisoners;
  • concerts and theatrical performances;
  • conceptual film screenings;
  • performances of extreme sportsmen;
  • cafes and bars.

The festival is conceived as a non-profit and non-competitive event. Its participants (artists, piercers, musicians, readers and actors) do not try to compete with each other and do not get any benefit from their work within the framework of the festival. All funds raised go to support prisoners around the world.

Thus, each guest of the festival gets the opportunity not only to have a great time, but also to help people who have lost their freedom..

The idea of Tatoo Circus found a response in many countries – since 2007, the festival has been repeatedly held in Athens, Barcelona, London, Thessaloniki, Madrid and other European cities..

Vegan Tatoo Circus in Pontedera

Last year, the Vegan Tatoo Circus, the first in Italy and throughout Europe, was held in the commune of Pontedera (province of Pisa, region of Tuscany). During the festival, vegan tattoo artists donated talent and ink to support animal liberation and contribute to the vegetarian and vegan movement..

Like traditional Tattoo Shows, the vegan festival was held in accordance with 3 main principles:

  • lack of commercial interest;
  • freedom from creative and other competition;
  • informal atmosphere.

And last weekend, the second “Vegan” Tatoo Circus took place here, in Pontedera. Here’s what one of the tattoo artists who participated in it says:

“I was genuinely surprised that many people (many of whom were already well over 70) got their first tattoos just to play their part in opening new shelters for animals or raising public awareness of the facts of cruelty against them..

Here I found a lot of new followers of the project “X” – in just a few hours more than six dozen people got tattoos in the form of one, ten, or even several dozen “crosses” “

As for Project X, the number of its supporters and activists is constantly growing. More and more people around the world decide to put one, four or even forty “crosses” on their skin. Others go even further, decorating the skin with hundreds or thousands of “X”.

The project was launched by the Italian artist Alfredo Meschi – in less than a year he applied 40 thousand “crosses” to the skin. The number was not chosen by chance – just so many animals living in water and on land are killed every minute just to satisfy human food addictions.

Alfredo Meschi actively uses his art of body art, organizing performances or photo sessions. Its goal is to draw people’s attention to consumer attitudes towards animals and environmental destruction..

Soon, Meski plans to encompass 2202 activists with Project X – according to statistics, so many animals die on land at the hands of humans every second.
