Residents of Moscow with tattoos on their faces

Recently, tattoos have ceased to be an attribute of prison life or belonging to a subculture, and a fully painted hand is not an obstacle to getting a job. But tattoos on the face and head still cause sincere surprise among others. The article contains the stories of two people who were not afraid to change their appearance so radically, as well as what a tattoo means to them..

Berta, 19 years old

The girl got her first tattoo at the age of 16, and not a small and inconspicuous drawing, but immediately radically – one image of Van Gogh for each hand, and a little later even more – lines on her face. The design of the future drawing Berta can create herself, since she is an illustrator.

Eye images are another story. When the girl was only 14 years old, she experienced problems with sleep, and socialization was also difficult, since people around her often do not accept people who are somehow different from others. In her dreams, Bertha saw people, instead of their faces, they had just white space. This prompted the girl to get an eye tattoo on her forehead..

Berta notes that there are no problems with work, the employer called her himself and invited her to come for an interview at the animation studio “Aeroplan”. The animated series “Fixies” is being created here..

Relatives reacted to the passion for tattoos in different ways. Grandmother constantly demands to remove all tattoos from her forehead, while mother practically does not notice the changes. Sometimes relatives still say that Berta has already mutilated herself.

The girl confesses that once at the entrance to GUM she was stopped by a security guard and said that with such an appearance, they would not be allowed into the store. When asked what was wrong with the appearance, the guard replied that this appearance is unacceptable and indecent.

Tattoos for a girl are like an icon depicting her inner self. After all, each of the tattoos on the body reflects some trait of a person’s character. But Bertha’s tattooing was not without pain, since the anesthesia did not always work as it should, and, for example, when drawing a picture on her stomach, the girl walked almost in a bent position for several days.

Vitaly, 24 years old

The young man got his first tattoo at the age of 17 on his arm, it depicts a heart with birds. Over time, the tattoo has grown, and the last two were made quite recently: on the neck and depicted a dagger on the face. In general, Vitaly’s body is crammed quite abundantly, only his chest and back are not occupied with drawings. But the arms and legs are completely covered with tattoos..

All tattoos are done by different, but proven and familiar masters, because according to Vitaly, the main thing is that the master understands his business. Vitaly no longer remembers how many tattoos he has on his body in general, and there is no point in counting them.

The first tattoo on the face appeared three years ago, and now there are four of them. The mother reacted to this extremely negatively, but eventually resigned herself. My father supports and even wants to get a tattoo himself, but my mother is categorically against it. The brother also does not mind and even filled himself one drawing..

Almost all of Vitaly’s friends have tattoos, and in his environment, almost all people are circling in the field of punk rock. In Russia, many believe that tattoos are inherent only to representatives of the subculture, but in Europe everything is not so, for example, in the Czech Republic a man with a tattoo on his face ran for president.

Vitaly never thought about what a particular tattoo means. For him, it is just an adornment of his body. Some wear bracelets and chains, others put tunnels in their ears, and some get tattoos.

Vitaly says that the most painful thing is to get tattoos on the chest and head, most likely because here the skin is much closer to the bones. Some people even cry when getting tattoos..

People around him are ambiguous about Vitaly. For example, grandmothers in the yard begin to ask why such dramatic changes in appearance are for. Others are delighted and try to find out how to get to the master.
