A new discovery from the University of Missouri – scientists were able to use an infrared camera to detect previously invisible tattoos on the bodies of ancient mummies, which are unusual patterns and symbols that resemble hieroglyphs.

The researchers note that all the bodies examined are more than 3,000 years old, they are all female, presumably the deceased were priestesses, the meaning of the symbols is still unknown..

One of the archaeologists who took part in the last expedition, Ann Austin, noted that earlier tattoos were found on only 6 mummies, and here such a find is in one of the necropolises of Thebes – Deir el-Medina.
