The biggest tattoo disappointments – they will surprise you, but not in the way you think
When planning to paint something on your body (and given that this “ink” is not so easy to wash off), you should know which tattoo designs are best to avoid. Perhaps one of the latest statistical surveys will help you with this. Its respondents were people who have already managed not only to get a tattoo, but also … regret it.

Some of the following “revelations” seem to be quite obvious, others – on the contrary, are quite unexpected. In any case, if you are planning to get a tattoo in the near future, take this information into account – it will help to avoid the most common mistakes..
Thousands of people were interviewed for this project. As a result, it turned out that most often people are unhappy with not choosing a tattoo design that contains a name. 31% of men and 24% of women regretted it. Does this surprise you? Probably not. Yes, people still love to decorate their skin with the names of their loved ones or best friends. Later, they may regret this too – tattoos with names are leading in the list of the most frequently removed tattoos..
It might make sense to remember that love (and friendship) is passing away. Therefore, it is better to give your loved ones and loved ones the joy of communication now, and not … a couple of inches of your skin … forever (or almost forever).
But the next point, perhaps, deserves surprise. Here, the opinions of men and women are slightly divided – the survey shows,
what:
- 13% of the stronger sex regret tattoos made in the once popular “tribal” style;
- 12% of women are unhappy with tattoos depicting constellations.
Who would have thought that these designs are so popular that they managed to cause regret among so many of the respondents??
Wealth. Who has not heard of people who chose this Asian symbol as a sketch for a tattoo. True, they learned about its true meaning after the symbol was imprinted on the skin in ink. As it turned out, so many have done this rashly. There are also a lot of those who have already regretted this – 12% of the men and women surveyed were disappointed in tattoo designs with the participation of various exotic symbols.
However, even tattoo artists are tired of such “pictures”. And one of the masters talked about a curious case: the guy claimed that he had a tattoo of the Chinese character “courage” on his arm, but in fact this symbol meant “turtle”.
Summing up what has been said, we can formulate two tips:
- use for tattoo design only those pictures / signs / hieroglyphs in the meaning of which you are 100% sure;
- apply to your skin only what will matter to you, both now and in 50 years from now.
The last tip is especially relevant due to the fact that:
- a quarter of the women surveyed regretted tattoos only because they were tired of the picture;
- a fourth of all respondents claim that they are unhappy with their tattoos, because they have lost their meaning for them.
The place where it is planned to place a new tattoo is also important. The experience of many people shows that tattoos on fingers or chest (in places in contact with underwear) are definitely not the best solution, just because such pictures quickly lose their appearance.
By the way, 15% of women surveyed are not happy with their tattoos on their lower back, and a fifth of men regret that they once made a tattoo on their forearm.
That said, both sexes agreed that tattooing the shoulders, chest, and upper back was not a good idea..
Of course, a tattoo is, first of all, a way of self-expression. Therefore, the choice of design is a very personal matter, in which you need to rely solely on your preferences. And (if possible, of course) – avoid names and constellations.
