1897 – Debut of The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells. The hero of the work is an optical scientist who managed to make himself invisible, but cannot reverse his result.

Over the decades, this idea has been transformed and updated, which turned it into a kind of horror icon, like Wells himself – the father of science fiction..

In 1933, the idea first appeared on the screen, thanks to the thriving cinema in Hollywood, the main role in the film was played by Claude Raines, who later appeared in films such as The Adventures of Robin Hood. “The Wolf Man”, “Casablanca” and “Lawrence of Arabia”.

The special effects in the film, for that time, were revolutionary, although the effect of invisibility on the film was created by means of the hero’s use of a black, velvet suit.

The viewers liked the idea so much that in 1940 a film was released – The Return of the Invisible Man, with Vincent Price. After that, a female version appeared, in the comedy performance of “The Invisible Woman”, with Virginia Bruce in the title role.
